Direct Answer & TL;DR

I had mango bingsu (a Korean shaved-ice dessert) at two Lotte-group hotels in Hanoi. On October 5 it was LUSH at L7 West Lake. On October 18 it was The Lounge Sky on the 38th floor of Lotte Hotel Hanoi. The mango tasted about the same. Lotte Hotel won on view and mango portion, and L7 won on price. If I ate it again, I’d go to Lotte Hotel. If you are a Lotte Hotel Rewards member, show the app when you pay and ask if a discount applies.

At both places, a 5% service charge and 8% VAT were added on top of the menu price. The discount comes off the menu price first, and the service charge and VAT are added after it. The Lotte Hotel receipt matched to the dong in that order, and I worked out the L7 menu price by running the same calculation backwards. Vietnam’s VAT is temporarily reduced from 10% to 8% through the end of 2026.

October 5: Mango bingsu at L7 West Lake’s LUSH

It was the day before the last day of our 7N8D family trip (#9). We got off the city tour bus and went back to the hotel. I’d heard the mango dessert was good at LUSH, the hotel’s coffee and dessert lounge, so we ordered the mango bingsu and a strawberry mini cake. As hotel guests, we got 10% off.

Mango bingsu in a metal bowl, round scoops of fresh mango and lychee piled up with ice cream on top, ice spread around the bowl, red bean and three sauces in front 1pm on October 5, the mango bingsu at L7 LUSH. A second bowl sat on a bowl of ice.

The mango came in round scoops, with lychee tucked in between. Ice cream sat on top, and the red bean and three sauces came separately on the side. Each of us took some of the bingsu and added the sauce we wanted. The mango was really good. The kids said the fresh mango was really good too.

October 18: The Lounge Sky, 38th floor of Lotte Hotel Hanoi

Two weeks later I went to The Lounge Sky on the 38th floor of Lotte Hotel Hanoi with a friend. My friend wanted to try it, so I tagged along. I hadn’t planned to compare it with L7. But when the bingsu arrived, I thought of the mango bingsu I’d had at L7 two weeks earlier.

3:30pm on October 18, the 38th-floor window. Smoke rose from under the bowl and poured down toward the floor.

The bingsu was fresh mango cut into cubes and stacked like a pyramid, with whipped cream and mint leaves on top. The sides came in three small bowls, and one of them was condensed milk.

White smoke kept rising from under the bowl and flowed down off the table. I asked the staff, “What is this?” and they told me it was dry ice. My friend and I found it fascinating together.

I wasn’t a guest at Lotte Hotel Hanoi, so there was no guest discount. I had signed up for Lotte Hotel Rewards two weeks earlier, when I stayed at L7 West Lake. When I paid, I showed the Lotte Hotels app and asked if a discount applied, and a 5% Rewards member discount was taken off. I paid with a Hana Travel GO debit card (Visa), and the overseas merchant fee was waived.

The Lotte Hotels app home screen, with the MEMBER tier and reward points shown on the my tier/points card The Lotte Hotels app I showed when paying. My tier is MEMBER, the lowest one.

The discount rate depends on your tier. Lotte Hotel Rewards changed to five tiers on September 7, 2026: MEMBER, SILVER, GOLD, PLATINUM and DIAMOND. According to the official page, the hotel food and beverage discount is 5% for MEMBER and SILVER, 10% for GOLD and PLATINUM, and up to 15% for DIAMOND. The 5% I got is the MEMBER rate.

Similar mango, more mango and a better view at Lotte Hotel

Having eaten both, I found the mango tasted similar, and the ice seemed to be the same. The difference was in the amount of mango. L7 had few round mango scoops on top, while Lotte Hotel piled on plenty of cubes.

L7 was cheaper. The bingsu and cake together cost less on the menu than Lotte Hotel’s bingsu alone, and the guest discount is bigger than the Rewards member discount. Still, if I ate it again, I’d go to Lotte Hotel. The view of Hanoi from the 38th floor, the generous mango and the dry ice presentation were all good.
